Summer Cooling Option: Whole House Cooling Fan

These fans are permanently installed in the upper level of the house and are meant to significantly reduce energy from use of air conditioners while being fully insulated and sealed so that you will not lose warm air in the winter.

It runs at two different speeds (950cfm/1600cfm) to pull cooler (nighttime) air from outside thru doors and windows that you strategically choose to open. At the same time, the initially warm air inside the house is pushed into the attic which is then discharged through existing (or new) roof vents. An added result of forcing air out of the attic thru the passive roof vents is that the attic temp is also reduced SIGNIFICANTLY. Which means that the attic is no longer a kind of radiant heater at night which helps to keep the upstairs cooler.

These high output fans (your bath fan is likely 50-100cfm), use little energy (116-276 watts) and are very quiet in the LOW setting. Note that they will not solve all problems on those very humid days as they don't reduce humidity below levels that exist outside the house. Caution to operate the fans exactly as the manufacturer specifies to ensure that the system does not create backdrafting of combustion appliances like water heaters...which can result in carbon monoxide poisoning.
